MIRRORS was workshopped in spring 2014 and later presented at Burrard Market Square in Vanderhoof and the Saik’uz Band Office Gym in Saik’uz First Nation. Directed by Lisa Striegler and produced by Sylvia Byron, the production explored how settler communities unconsciously perpetuate harm against Indigenous people in the region.
The workshop process included audiences such as the Nechako Community Arts Council AGM, the Welcoming Communities committee, and members of Saik’uz First Nation. Audiences and actors engaged with original plays—Prosperity, Language Lessons, To Your Health!, and Getting an Education—and participated in facilitated post-performance dialogues to reflect on the realism of the struggles portrayed, process difficult subject matter, and consider how to be better neighbours. These discussions were thoughtful and engaged, often balancing challenging themes with moments of shared laughter.
